Moonlight

Have you seen Moonlight?
Do you know its beauty?
I have waited for months to see this film, and honestly didn’t think that I’d get the opportunity to see it in theatres.
I am so glad that I was wrong.
This film is beautiful. It is really unlike anything I’ve seen on screen before.
Moonlight is the coming of age tale of Chiron, a boy with a mother who is a drug addict, a father who is absent, and no friends except for his mother’s drug dealer and his girlfriend  who take care of him when needed.
The film explores Chiron coming to terms with all of that, in addition to his sexuality, his masculinity, and quite simply his place in the world.
I’ve seen more than one interview where one of the film’s stars Mahershala Ali is brought to tears while talking about the story and it is so easy to see why. Throughout the film you just want Chiron to be alright. You also want the same for all of the other boys going through similar circumstances who have not seen themselves in this light before.
Representation matters.
Moonlight is an adaptation of the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney.
It needs multiple awards come awards season.
Go see it if you haven’t already.
